YOUR EXECUTIVE
The National Executive of NZRDA is made up of elected delegates, many of whom have experience with MECA bargaining. All members are chosen according to NZRDA’s rules, which you can read here. Below are profiles of our current National Executive members.
The National Executive is composed of your President, Vice President, Executive Secretary, Treasurer, and Regional Representatives.
Your President
Dr. James Anderson is the current President. Originally from Scotland, James moved to New Zealand in 2016 and works as a Paediatric Registrar at Dunedin Hospital. He is passionate about improving working conditions, hours, and work-life balance for doctors. You can read his personal journey here.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
The Executive’s core responsibilities include:
- managing the direction of the NZRDA’s activities
- promoting the union’s objectives
- implementing decisions from AGMs and National Membership Meetings
- ensuring accountability of the functioning of other structures, bodies and officers of NZRDA
- resolving disputes or problems encountered between NZRDA members or bodies
- ensuring sound financial policy, including safeguarding assets of NZRDA, and managing its business (including investments)
- ensuring NZRDA’s compliance with its own rules and the law
PURPOSE
The National Executive operates as the “board of directors” for NZRDA, managing the union’s activities between AGMs and taking input from members via workplace delegates. It provides leadership, sets policy, and ensures the union runs smoothly.
