NZRDA Education Trust

Are you passionate about RMO training and want to share your passion with your RMO colleagues?
If so the NZRDA Education Trust is here to help with your funding!

About the Trust

The NZRDA Education Trust (established in 2000) provides financial support for the furtherance and protection of the education or training of RMOs in all aspects of medical practice in NZ. The Trust has eight trustees comprising of NZRDA life members and current National Executive members.

Approved Applications

The Trust has approved applications for both individuals and groups, always with a view to overall collective benefit to RMOs – some examples below:

  • The Trust approved funding towards the annual NZRDA Delegate Training held in March. The training provides an opportunity for delegates to come together to (amongst other things) learn about the MECA and how to assist other members.
  • The Trust approved funding towards the Health and Quality Safety Commission workshops on clinical governance (carried out in 2016 and 2017). These workshops provided a fantastic opportunity for members to learn about leadership in quality and safety.
  • The Trust approved funding towards the 2016 Clinical Governance Conference held at SkyCity Auckland. The conference created a forum for discussion about
how RMOs could consistently incorporate facets of clinical governance into their daily working lives.

The Trust has also approved applications from individual RMOs to benefit the education or training of other RMOs in NZ. For example:

  • An RMO seeking to undertake a systematic review of leadership training; and
  • An RMO seeking to develop a podcast targeted at House Officers about RMO life and best practice management.

The objectives of the Trust are:

The relevant training/education undertaken must meet one or more of the objects of the trust which include:

  • The provision of financial assistance towards the establishment and conduct of training seminars and conferences for RMOs.
  • The provision of financial assistance towards the production of newsletters, brochures, training manuals whether printed or digital, and other training materials and aids for RMOs.
  • The creation and funding of scholarships, bursaries, grants or prizes awarded to RMOs engaged in the medical profession in NZ to assist the further education and training of those persons within NZ.
  • The education of, and provision of information to, the medical profession and/or the general public in NZ regarding matters and issues of relevance to the education or training of RMOs in NZ.
  • Please check the “How Do I Apply” section below for key terms and conditions.

How do I apply?

The application form can be downloaded here, and you can read the terms and conditions here. Each application will be considered on a case by case basis. You must be an RMO to be eligible. Please note:

  • The training must be beneficial to all RMOs collectively in NZ and not to further an individual career.
  • The grants need to be further training/education that falls outside the provisions of the MECA ie. costs of training.
  • The decisions of the Trust are final. The Trust will not enter into correspondence about the outcomes of a funding decision.

Please submit your application along with an up to date copy of your CV to educationtrust@nzrda.org.nz.

Closing dates

The Trust aims to consider all applications inkeeping with the stated objects of the Trust in April and October of each year but are happy to receive applications at any time. Please submit your application as soon as possible, and be aware that the timeline for the processing of applications may take anywhere up to three months for a decision to be made.
