Resident Doctors' Day & I am a Doctor

June 23 2025

It’s June 23, which means two things firstly, it’s Resident Doctors’ Day, and secondly, the first three I am a Doctor films have just been launched.

Resident Doctors’ Day recognises the vital contributions made to New Zealand’s healthcare system by resident doctors across Aotearoa. This day is an opportunity to recognise their essential roles and the significant impact they have on patient care. By celebrating Resident Doctors, we aim to raise public awareness about the wide range of skills and training they undergo at various stages of their careers, and to move away from the misconception that they are merely “junior doctors.” Resident Doctors play a crucial role in medical teams and the wider healthcare system, and this day is dedicated to honouring their dedication and expertise.

The first three I am a Doctor films are now live. The goal of this series is to increase awareness among New Zealanders of who Resident Doctors are and what they do, and of the immense value this group of highly trained professionals bring to our healthcare system. These stories highlight the personal stories, insights, and experiences of eight representative Resident Doctors working towards different specialties around Aotearoa. And there are more to come— five more episodes will be released throughout July.

Watch, share, and help us spread the word of our awesome Resident Doctors.
